Las Vegas- Miss California 21 year-old Alyssa Campanella was crowned Miss USA 2011 at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on Sunday night and will compete for the title at the upcoming Miss Universe pageant on September 12, in San Paulo Brazil.
After the top four beauty queens answered their final question it was Miss California Alyssa Campanella that wow the judges with her final answer.
Miss California answered a question about legalizing marijuana by saying she didn't think it should be fully legalized as a solution to help ailing economies.
"Well, I understand why that question would be asked, especially with today's economy, but I also understand that medical marijuana is very important to help those who need it medically," she said. "I'm not sure if it should be legalized, if it would really affect, with the drug war. I mean, it's abused today, unfortunately, so that's the only reason why I would kind of be a little bit against it, but medically it's OK."
The last three weeks was filled with fun and glamour. The 51 beauty queens enjoyed everything Vegas had to offer and had preliminary competitions and interviews before the live telecast, where the judges had already picked there final 16 contestants. Last night the judges picked the top eight after the swimsuit completions and the final four after the evening gown parade.
Miss Tennessee best friend to Miss California, Ashley Durham was the first runner-up, she will assume the duties of MISS USA 2011 if the titleholder is named MISS UNIVERSE 2011 or if for some reason MISS USA cannot fulfill her duties.while contestants from Alabama and Texas placed third and fourth.
The 60th Annual MISS USA 2011 was hosted by Bravo's "Watch What Happens: Live" host and executive producer Andy Cohen and "E! News" co-anchor Giuliana Rancic.
Miss California replaces Miss USA 2010 Rima Fakih. The the New York born, Michigan beauty who look stunning in her red gown as she walked across the stage for a final goodbye.
